What
is a hostel?
Hostels started in Europe as a way for young people to travel
cheaply and "see the world". These days most hostels
are open to all ages and aim to provide shelter, shower, and
security. In a hostel you rent a bed (usually a bunk-bed) in
a dormitory and share common bathroom, kitchen, and lounge rooms.
Private rooms are often available. The main benefit of a hostel
is that you get to meet other travelers from all over the world
and the hostel staff can usually provide you with local travel
tips and discounts. Often group activities are planned throughout
the week.
Bring
a Towel
Traditionally, hostel guests brought their own sheets and towels.
Most hostels now provide sheets, pillowcase, and blankets, but
you probably will have to make your bed yourself. Do not bring
a sleeping bag as they are usually not allowed. It is customary
when checking out to remove your sheets and blankets from your
bed and return them to the designated laundry area.
(Please bring your own towel, soap, and shampoo to the Big Bear
Hostel.
We provide the bedding and blankets.)
Hostel's
Mission
I started the Big Bear Hostel because I love hosteling and outdoor
sports and Big Bear Lake provides year-round outdoor recreation.
I am trying to build the ultimate base camp in Big Bear for
outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are a mountain biker, snowboarder,
skier, wakeboarder, wakerskier, rock climber, paddler, barefoot
marathoner, triathlete, adventure racer or you just want to
read a book, go for a hike, and have a BBQ on our huge deck
overlooking the lake you will not be disappointed! My goal is
for my guests to have such a good time that they return again
and again, and each visit will be better than the last!

We
have the best location, low prices, and the most fun!
Come check it out!
The
aim of the hostel is to provide low-cost accommodation for international
travelers and easy-going fun outdoorsy Americans!
Chores?
Some hostels still require you to do some sort or cleaning chore
in the morning to help keep costs low. Even if this is not the
case you should be prepared to clean up after yourself. Hostels
are far from full service.
Curfew?
There is currently no curfew at the Big Bear Hostel.
Quiet hours are from 10:30pm - 7:00am.
